CO₂ Mole & Spot Removal Aftercare

September 13, 2025

Laser mole or spot removal treatment is a minimally invasive procedure uses fractional CO₂ laser energy to precisely vaporize unwanted skin lesions, moles, or pigmented spots with minimal scarring and downtime.

Proper aftercare is essential to support healing, prevent complications, and ensure the best cosmetic outcome.

What to Expect After Treatment

  • Mild redness, swelling, or sensitivity around the treated area (first 24–48 hours)
  • A small scab or crust will form over the site as the skin begins to heal
  • Treated area may appear darker or dry before sloughing off
  • Skin may look pink or lighter once healed—this gradually blends over time

Healing typically occurs over 7–14 days, depending on the size and location of the treated area and your skin type.

Aftercare Instructions

DO:

  • Keep the area clean by gently washing twice daily with lukewarm water and a mild, non-foaming cleanser (e.g., Cetaphil, CeraVe)
  • Pat dry with a clean towel—do not rub
  • Apply a thin layer of healing ointment (e.g., Vaseline, Polysporin, or Aquaphor) 2–3 times daily to prevent dryness and scab cracking
  • Allow the scab to heal naturally—do not pick, scratch, or force peeling
  • Once the scab has fallen off, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily to prevent hyperpigmentation

AVOID for 7–10 Days:

  • Direct sun exposure, tanning, or sunbeds
  • Makeup or skincare products with acids, retinol, or alcohol on or near the treated area
  • Scratching, scrubbing, or exfoliating the treated site
  • Swimming pools, saunas, or hot tubs
  • Harsh facial treatments (peels, microdermabrasion, lasers) until the area fully heals

Common Side Effects (Mild & Temporary)

  • Redness or irritation at the site
  • Itching or dryness during scabbing
  • Slight swelling or tenderness
  • Temporary pigmentation changes (light or dark spots as skin regenerates)

Rare Side Effects

  • Infection (pus, spreading redness, pain, or foul odor)
  • Prolonged redness or pigmentation issues
  • Hypertrophic or keloid scarring (rare, more likely in prone individuals)
