Laser Genesis Aftercare (1064nm Nd:YAG): What to Expect, How to Care, and When to Contact SKINLAB

August 22, 2025

Laser Genesis is a non-ablative treatment using the 1064nm Nd:YAG wavelength, which works by heating the dermis to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and gently resurface the skin.

Here’s everything you need to know for post-treatment care and optimal results.

What to Expect After Laser Genesis

Because Laser Genesis is a non-invasive, no-downtime procedure, most clients can return to regular activities immediately. However, you may experience:

  • Mild redness or warmth in the treated area (usually fades within a few hours)
  • A flushed or glowing appearance—this is normal and expected
  • Slight tightness or dryness in the first 24–48 hours
  • For some, a temporary increase in breakouts as impurities purge from the skin

Improvements build gradually over time, with optimal results typically seen after 3–6 sessions spaced about 2–4 weeks apart.

Laser Genesis Aftercare Instructions

DO:

  • Cleanse with a gentle, non-exfoliating cleanser
  • Apply a lightweight, soothing moisturizer (e.g., hyaluronic acid, ceramides)
  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily—sun protection is key
  • Reapply SPF every 2 hours when outdoors
  • Stay hydrated and support your skin with a healthy diet

AVOID for 24–48 Hours:

  • Active skincare products, including retinoids, glycolic/salicylic acid, or vitamin C
  • Heavy makeup or occlusive products (especially if redness persists)
  • Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or intense exercise
  • Facial waxing, peels, microneedling, or laser treatments on the treated area
  • Direct sun exposure or tanning beds for at least 1 week

Common Side Effects (Mild & Temporary)

  • Mild flushing or pinkness
  • Tightness or slight dryness
  • Subtle purging (especially in acne-prone skin)
  • A warming sensation during and shortly after treatment

These effects are normal and typically resolve within a few hours to a day.

Rare Side Effects (Uncommon but Possible)

  • Prolonged redness or irritation
  • Temporary increase in pigmentation (especially if post-care isn’t followed)
  • Mild swelling in sensitive areas
  • Breakouts if occlusive or irritating products are used too soon
